Update For: Pete

Pete's Christmas Letter . . We met with Maggie in October & brought him home . We named him “Petey Rufus Charlie Adair.” “Pete”; Martha’s idea for “repeat”, “Rufus”; cuz Emilia LOVES that name for a dog, & being that Petey would be a good Catholic dog, he needed a confirmation name.  So his third name is “Charlie”; for Bruce, who loves to watch Charles Krauthamer on fox news. The initials come out to PRCA (pro rodeo cowboy association), for Catherine who LOVES to look at cowboy butts in tight Wranglers.  The ensuing weeks were more challenging than having a new baby in the house. Crying, whimpering, needing to be taken to the bathroom several times a night, then wide awake & unable to return to sleep at 530 am!! (NO-I’m not referring to just Bruce & I-although middle age does have some of that!) Bruce was our hero in getting up early & keeping Petey company throughout the day & evening in the designated “puppy zone”, aka the dog run & adjacent garage. We’re easing Petey into being a housedog. After running around a ranch in Central California with 14 other new puppies, he’s done quite well in 2 ½ months. At night he sleeps in his kennel in the house, but otherwise he’s getting accustomed to inside life with very supervised ventures into the house.  His final round of shots have now allowed him to take “power walks” with Bruce. The deer, rabbits, javelina & all other wildlife alert all of Petey’s senses. It’s more like “power dragging” of Bruce by the tireless, sinewy 24 pound pup. It IS a sight to see. Petey has nuzzled, fetched, chased, barked, wrestled, frolicked, & “puppy-dog eyed” his way into our hearts.
